Old and new, In less than a generation huge changes have taken place in Britain's industry and manufacturing.

Walkers set out at the Gunpowder Mills local nature reserve in Waltham Abbey Coal mines in Wales are now reduced from many hundreds to just a handful of working mines, most of these opencast.

Steel and coal were the principal industries in Wales for many years, the Welsh valleys have been eradicated of its pits and pit wheels leaving only the Big Pit as a heritage archive along with one or two others. This image is of Cefn Coed collery, now a museum, near Neath.

Capturing the changes in East London is somewhat of a challenge as the pace of development continues.
